Report: West Ham ready £22m bid for rapid striker who Freddie Kanoute once deemed really 'exciting'

West Ham United have a busy summer ahead of them as their new manager prepares to mould and build the team in his image.

The Hammers recently announced that David Moyes would be leaving the club at the end of the season.

Julen Lopetegui is expected to become the new West Ham boss, though the club will reportedly delay an announcement until Moyes is no longer manager.

West Ham could certainly do with bolstering their ranks this summer, particularly in attack as they’re short on numbers there.

Now, a new report from CaughtOffside believes the Hammers are readying a bid for a player they’ve been linked with numerous times in the past.

The player in question is Sevilla’s Youssef En-Nesyri and, according to the report, West Ham are preparing an offer worth €25million (around £22million) for him.

West Ham apparently consider En-Nesyri a potential long-term replacement for Michail Antonio, who turned 34 in March.

Aston Villa and Newcastle United are reportedly also keen on the Morocco international, but not as much as the Hammers.

Stars align as West Ham linked again with Youssef En-Nesyri

Although the Hammers have been linked with En-Nesyri many times before, there’s more optimism than ever that a deal could finally take place.

This is because Lopetegui, who is set to take the West Ham reins, has worked with the 26-year-old before.

The pair worked together at Sevilla between 2020 and 2022, during which time they won the 2020 Europa League.

And with En-Nesyri’s contract running out in 2025, this summer will be the last chance that Sevilla have of recouping a decent fee for him.

West Ham and Sevilla cult hero Frederic Kanoute is among those who have praised the 2022 World Cup semi-finalist.

“I would say En-Nesyri from Sevilla,” Kanoute told Goal.com in 2020, when asked which African player excites him.

“I think he is an exciting player. He is tall, quick and agile, in spite of his height. Hopefully, he is going to score many goals for Sevilla.”

En-Nesyri has impressed in Andalucia. Now, let’s see whether he ends up swapping southern Spain for east London in the coming months.
