'His main quality': Mikel Arteta says Arsenal have a £12m talent in their ranks who 'makes everybody better'

Earlier this week, Arsenal announced that Jorginho has signed a contract extension at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners midfielder is reported to have put pen to paper on a one-year extension with the north Londoners.

According to The Guardian, Jorginho turned down the prospect of a return to Serie A to extend his stint at Arsenal.

The Italy international joined Arsenal from Chelsea in January 2023 in a deal reportedly worth around £12million.

Jorginho has made 51 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners, of which 35 have come this season.

All in all, it seemed like a no-brainer for Arsenal to offer him a new contract, and Mikel Arteta is certainly happy with how things have played out.

What has Mikel Arteta now said about Arsenal midfielder Jorginho?

The Arsenal manager, speaking to the Gunners media team ahead of the Manchester United game, was eager to sing Jorginho’s praises.

“I think there are no questions about his contribution to a team, the way he feels about his teammates, about the club and the way we play,” said Arteta.

“He’s someone who makes everybody better – that’s his main quality.

“He’s still hungry, he wants to win, he wants to win with us, he’s happy here and his family is happy here, so for us it was a really easy decision.”

Jorginho offers so much on the pitch and in the Arsenal dressing room

Jorginho is not only a quality player for Arsenal, but his vast experience at the highest level makes him a major asset in the dressing room.

The Gunners team is quite young for the most part, so having someone like Jorginho – who has won numerous cups as a player – who can provide guidance, advice and reassurance is invaluable.

Arteta has made Arsenal a place of high standards and Jorginho certainly matches them. Let’s hope he can help the Gunners over the line in their pursuit of glory from now until next summer.
