"You don’t appreciate how good he is"; Aiden McGeady on the key Celtic weapon vs Rangers

Aiden McGeady is a man who has experienced all of the ups and downs of the Celtic derby against Rangers.

The winger relished these occasions during his playing career and, as a fan, is looking forward to another high-stakes meeting between the two sides on Saturday.

Celtic sit three points clear of Rangers and know avoiding defeat at Celtic Park will put them on the brink of winning a third successive title with just two games to go.

One star who’ll have a big say in the outcome of the match is Kyogo Furuhashi. The Japanese star has scored seven goals in 12 games against the Ibrox side and supporters are hoping he can find that form again this afternoon.

For McGeady, he’s the key to unlocking what could be a makeshift Rangers defence.

Kyogo tipped for “massive role” against Rangers again

The former Celtic winger told BBC Radio Scotland: “Kyogo’s going to have a massive role in the game. I’d be very surprised come full-time on Saturday if he’s not scored or had chances. Kyogo has been a massive thorn in Rangers’ side since he signed.

“He’s one of those players who sometimes you don’t appreciate how good he is when he’s not getting involved massively in the build-up of the play but he can just do something out of nothing and that’s what the best strikers do.

“Earlier on in the season there was a lot of talk of does he fit into the new style of play, as opposed to Ange Portecoglou’s side, but he’s still one of those players you can never take out of the team, just for what he does on a week to week basis.

“There’s a reason the strikers are paid the most money and are the most sought-after players. And I’d be very surprised if we’re not discussing the impact Kyogo’s had on the game.”

Kyogo will need good service to really get at Rangers

We want the 29-year-old to be involved against today’s visitors. On far too many occasions this season he’s been isolated and cut off from the rest of the Celtic attack.

Midfielders such as Matt O’Riley and Reo Hatate must be brave on the ball and risk playing the difficult pass to capitalise on Kyogo’s movement. We witnessed that against Hearts and it paid off handsomely.

Give him the service and watch him shine. We know Kyogo can get the job done on days like today. Let’s see him make it eight in 13.
