'Without a doubt': Paul Robinson says 9-goal forward would walk 'straight into' Manchester United starting XI

Paul Robinson believes an exciting forward would walk ‘straight into’ the Manchester United team, despite the fact he’s only played 17 times this season.

Manchester United’s terrible season hit a new nadir on Monday when they were thrashed 4-0 by Crystal Palace.

The pressure continues to mount on beleaguered manager Erik ten Hag and the flailing Dutchman potentially has just four games left in charge at Old Trafford.

Whether or not Ten Hag is sacked in the summer, it’s obvious massive changes are once again required in the squad and it’s set to be a busy transfer window once again.

However, it will be the first summer with Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos Group and the new hires at board level in charge of transfer activity.

It’s intriguing to wonder how they will approach the market and what players they are looking to recruit.

Former goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise should be a target.

Michael Olise would walk ‘straight into’ the Manchester United starting XI

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live at 8:56 pm on Friday, Robinson said when asked if Olise could make the jump to a bigger club: “Without a doubt.

“I can see him fit in. He would go straight into the Manchester United team, the way that Cole Palmer has left and gone to Chelsea, somebody like that would go straight into a Manchester United side.

“For him, if he is to go, he has to go somewhere and he has to play.”

Should Manchester United sign Michael Olise?

Olise proved on Monday night just how special a talent he is when he tore United to shreds, scoring two fantastic goals to take his tally in the campaign to nine.

The 22-year-old has established himself as one of the most dynamic and exciting forwards in the Premier League and will no doubt be subject to a lot of speculation during the transfer window.

Even though he had injury problems in his early career and played just 17 times this season, Olise is certainly the type of profile – young, talented, progressive – United need to be looking at.

Yet, would signing him this summer just be United making the same mistakes as always?

Olise signed a new contract in 2023 to 2027 so there is no chance Palace will be letting him go without a fight and a significant sum.

United could now doubt match the demands, but should they?

Instead of signing the players when their value is through the roof, a club of United’s vast resources should be finding and picking up talent of Olise’s level before they become household names.

If they go out and spend another £80m on a winger, it’s hard to see what’s different in this regime from the last one.
