During the night into Saturday, May 11, drones from the Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) attacked the Volgograd Oil Refinery in Russia. It is part of the Lukoil corporation, reports RBC-Ukraine, citing its own sources.
As sources noted, the attack occurred around 3:45 a.m. Currently, it is known that the primary oil processing units AVT-1 and AVT-6 at the refinery have been damaged. Intelligence is clarifying their current condition.
At the same time, the control cable for air coolers was damaged, leading to the shutdown of 7 of them. Additionally, the smokestack of furnace P-1 was also damaged.
About the refinery
Lukoil-Volgogradneftepererabotka is a fuel and oil enterprise in Volgograd, launched on December 21, 1957, marking the production of the first gasoline. It has been part of Lukoil since the early 1990s.
The refinery processes a mixture of low-sulfur West Siberian and Lower Volga region oils, transported via the Samara-Tikhoretsk pipeline. Finished products are shipped by rail, river, and road transport.
The primary delivery region for petroleum products is the Southern Federal District, with some products exported. As of 2015, the refinery processed 12.6 million tons of oil annually, with a capacity of 15.7 million tons per year.
Attacks on refineries in Russia
Recently, Russian refineries and oil depots have been constantly under drone attacks. For instance, recent strikes targeted oil depots in Luhansk and Rovenky. The Kaluga refinery in Russia was also attacked.
