Sunderland transfer round up: Three attackers on Black Cats radar, Trai Hume exit claim and more

Sunderland are pushing ahead with their summer transfer plans, despite not having a manager in place.

Sunderland are still on the lookout for their next manager. But the club are moving forwards with their transfer plans anyway, with several names now being linked with a summer move to the Stadium of Light.

And rather inevitably, there’s names being linked with moves away from Wearside as well, and here we round up all the latest Sunderland transfer news…

Sunderland leading race for Divin Mubama

One name who Sunderland have been linked with for some time now is West Ham striker Divin Mubama, who remains out of contract in the summer.

The Black Cats wanted Mubama in January but failed to sign him. Reports at the start of May though revealed that Sunderland are now the front runners to sign the 19-year-old as a free agent this summer.

Sunderland have been linked with a summer move for Chris Willock, who sees his contract at QPR expire this summer.

But Norwich City have now joined the race to sign the former Arsenal man and could make their move regardless of whether or not they earn promotion this season.

Jack Clarke future at Sunderland unclear

Jack Clarke remains a person of interest in the Premier League, with reports earlier in May stating that Bournemouth and West Ham are now leading the race for his signature.

But transfer expert Graeme Bailey exclusively revealed to Sunderland AFC News that Burnley remain well in the race to sign Clarke this summer, with Sheffield United potential dark horses in this transfer race too.

Bailey said: ”I still think Burnley are favourites for me from what I’ve heard, though I haven’t heard too much recently.

“I think he’s more likely to go to Burnley or Sheffield United personally, but we’ll see how that transpires in the coming weeks.”

In another exclusive from Bailey, Sunderland have been tipped to receive a lot of interest in the impressive Trai Hume.

The defender enjoyed another solid campaign with Sunderland and earlier this year was linked with the likes of Aston Villa and Napoli among other teams.

Bailey told Sunderland AFC News: ”I think you’re going to lose Hume at right-back too.

“Well, they were looking to sell the lad you got from PSG [Pembele], but I think one of the right-backs will go.

“They had originally signed the PSG boy to succeed Hume, but he hasn’t got much of a look in, has he?”

Sunderland join race to sign Ian Poveda

Lastly, a new name has been added to Sunderland’s transfer radar; Leeds United and Colombian winger Ian Poveda.

The tricky 24-year-old has just concluded a strong loan spell with Sheffield Wednesday where assisted one goal in 10 games, still winning over the hearts of supporters despite a lack of goal contributions.

He’s set to be released by Leeds this summer and reports coming out of Spain say that Sunderland want to sign Poveda this summer, but face competition from Wednesday, as well as Burnley and Luton Town.
