Report: Sheffield Wednesday star wanted by West Brom and 3 other Championship sides ahead of contract expiry

A Sheffield Wednesday player is now wanted by West Brom, as well as Derby County, Hull City, and Stoke City.

Sheffield Wednesday are in store for big changes this summer, including changes both on and off the pitch.

Off the pitch, there’s rumoured improvements to Middlewood and a possible new contract in store for manager Danny Rohl.

On the pitch, Sheffield Wednesday have a number of players out of contract, and despite the club avoiding relegation, many could still leave.

Talks regarding new deals can finally commence after the conclusion of the season. Though Wednesday may have to act fast with interest in some of their key players already emerging.

And one Sheffield Wednesday man in particular has interest from elsewhere in the Championship.

Josh Windass transfer interest at Sheffield Wednesday

Josh Windass is one of the may out of contract in the summer, though he recently revealed that his agent is in talks with Sheffield Wednesday over a possible new deal.

An emerging report from The Star though has revealed that Wednesday may need to hurry up with discussions over Windass’ future in particular.

The 30-year-old has interest from Derby County, Hull City, Stoke City, and West Brom ahead of the summer.

Interest from West Brom in particular may be flattering for Windass, who finished the 2023/24 season in fine form scoring in each of Wednesday’s last three games of the season.

During four years at the club, Windass has scored a total of 40 goals, including the penultimate goals in each of the last two seasons.

Key factor behind Josh Windass future at Sheffield Wednesday

Speaking earlier in May, Windass not only revealed that his agents is talking to Wednesday about his future, but also that the future of Rohl will play a big factor in whether or not he stays.

Windass also added that it might be a big factor for a lot of the other out of contract players too and so owner Dejphon Chansiri desperately needs to finalise Rohl’s future, so that the club can then finalise the futures of players like Windass and more.

It’s said that Rohl and Chansiri have held positive talks, though there’s not yet been any confirmation about Rohl’s future.

He’s under contract until the summer of 2025 but he has interest from elsewhere in the Championship, so tying him down to a new deal remains a key priority.

But Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly protected by a £10million compensation package for Rohl and his backroom team.

So for Windass, there doesn’t seem to be any rush in sorting his future. And if Rohl doesn’t end up staying, Windass may well fancy a new challenge, with West Brom and Hull City two very attractive options for the striker.

If he stays though, it’ll be a huge boost for Rohl or whoever the manager might be at the start of next season, with Windass showing his class in the final run in.
