Former Atlantic County Sheriff Eric Scheffler was recently named the executive director of the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority.
Scheffler was elected sheriff in 2017 and re-elected three years later before the Democrat was voted out in November. Prior serving as sheriff, he worked as a police officer in Atlantic City for 23 years, retiring in as a lieutenant in 2015. His annual pension is $75,098.64, according to pension recods.
The CRDA board of directors approved Scheffler’s appointment in April.
The CRDA oversees Boardwalk Hall and the Atlantic City Convention Center and is the primary economic development agency for Atlantic City, tasked with earmarking casino funds for development projects.
Scheffler grew up in Margate, graduating from Atlantic City High School and Stockton University.
He replaced deputy executive director Maisha Y. Moore, who held the post on an interim basis when Sean Pattwell left the CRDA at the end of 2023.
The CDRA also named another retired Atlantic City cop — Jerry Barnhardt — as director of the Special Improvement District Division at the start of the year.
