'Really hard': Ange Postecoglou shares his thoughts on how Dane Scarlett performed in Tottenham 2-1 Burnley

Ange Postecoglou has now shared his thoughts on how Dane Scarlett performed in Tottenham’s 2-1 win over Burnley.

The Spurs No.44 made just his third Premier League appearance under the Australian on Saturday, coming off the bench to play the final 15 minutes – a period in which Micky van de Ven scored the winning goal.

After full-time in N17, Ange Postecoglou revealed what he thought of Dane Scarlett‘s display for Tottenham

What Ange Postecoglou thought of Dane Scarlett cameo

It may have only been a 15-minute cameo, but the 58-year-old was still left impressed by the England U20 international’s endeavour against the Clarets.

As quoted by Football London, Postecoglou said: “I had to get creative with the set-up, knowing that in the last half hour we would probably be dominant from a physical perspective, because we have been – pretty consistently. So, having a set-up that at least gave us a chance to take advantage of the chances we had, Dane came on and worked really hard.”

It has been a tough 2023/24 campaign for the 20-year-old.

Scarlett made just 12 Championship appearances on loan at Ipswich in the first half of the season, so it was good to see Postecoglou hand the Londoner some substantial minutes on Saturday.

How 20-year-old performed against Burnley

Scarlett won’t officially get the assist, but it was his selfless run which created space for Van de Ven to bag the winner.

Aside from that smart movement, the Tottenham academy graduate did in fact work hard, as Postecoglou noticed.

SofaScore shows that Scarlett recorded one successful tackle and also won a freekick, on an afternoon where he certainly didn’t shy away from getting involved in the action with 15 minutes to impress.

Hopefully, the youngster – who Jose Mourinho once called a “diamond” – did enough to earn some more playing time in the final two games of the season, which come against Manchester City and Sheffield United.
