Ange Postecoglou says Tottenham player who’s only featured for 16 minutes all season impressed him v Burnley

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has admitted he was really impressed by one of his players against Burnley.

Ange Postecoglou‘s side picked up three much-needed points in their bid to secure European football for next season.

After what was a stunning start to the campaign for Tottenham, it has been a real slog over the last month with four consecutive defeats in the league.

However, Spurs came up trumps when they were needed against Burnley with Pedro Porro and Micky van de Ven‘s goals sealing the win.

It was by no means a straightforward win for Spurs, though, as they found themselves behind once again.

But the second half was improved and saw Postecoglou make a number of changes in the final 15 minutes of the game.

And it is one of his substitutes that he has admitted he was impressed by.

Ange Postecoglou says one Tottenham player worked really hard

Going into the game, Spurs were hit with the injury blow to Richarlison which saw him pick up an injury in training at Hotspur Way on Friday.

After scoring against Liverpool on the weekend, that left a hole to fill up top and Postecoglou moved Heung-min Son into the middle to fill the void.

However, the South Korean struggled once again as his form has taken a downward spiral over the last month or so.

That saw Postecoglou resort to his bench for some inspiration in the final 15 minutes of the game.

As injuries ravaged some of the forward options at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the 58-year-old provided young Dane Scarlett with an opportunity.

Although the 20-year-old was unable to find the back of the net as Spurs searched for a breakthrough, Postecoglou told the media of his delight in his display.

Like you said I had to get creative with the set-up, knowing that in the last half hour, we would probably be dominant from a physical perspective because we have been pretty consistently,” he said.

“So having a set-up that at least gave us a chance to take advantage of the chances we had. Dane came on and worked really hard.”

Ange Postecoglou’s comments may give Dane Scarlett some hope

It has been a really testing campaign for the young striker who returned from his season-long loan deal with Ipswich Town in December.

The move did not work out and he has since been forced to wait for his opportunity from the bench at Tottenham.

Prior to the game on Saturday, Scarlett had only played a mere minute or so with his 15 minute display taking him up to 16 minutes in the Premier League.

  • 15 minutes played
  • 6 touches
  • 1/1 accurate passes
  • 1/3 ground duels won
  • 1X was fouled
  • 3X lost possession

With Tottenham’s spot in fifth place only requiring another point to be secured, perhaps now is the time for Postecoglou to provide Scarlett some minutes.
