'Really stood up': Ange Postecoglou names two Spurs players who particularly impressed him during losing run

Ange Postecoglou has named the two Tottenham Hotspur players who have really stood up and been desperate to make an impact during the club’s losing run – which came to an end on Saturday.

Spurs went into their clash with Burnley having lost their previous four games in the Premier League. In fairness, Ange Postecoglou‘s side had been beaten by the likes of Newcastle, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool, but many of the performances were particularly disappointing.

Thankfully for Tottenham, that run is now over, with goals from Pedro Porro and Micky van de Ven giving them a 2-1 win over Burnley.

Postecoglou was full of praise for van de Ven’s season after the victory, and it seems that he also appreciates just how determined the Dutchman has been to drag Tottenham out of their rut.

Ange Postecoglou praises Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero

Speaking to Spurs Play after the win over the Clarets, Postecoglou suggested that van de Ven and Cristian Romero have set a real example to the rest of the team over the last few weeks.

“Micky, he had one year in the Bundesliga, he’s come into the Premier League and he just hasn’t missed a beat, he’s just grown as a person, as a player and even with his injury problems, he’s just come back and today it’s a credit to him,” he said.

“Him and Cuti, in particular, through this tough spell have been the two that have really stood up and wanted to make an impact.”

Tottenham well on their way to having one of the Premier League’s best partnerships

Of course, Romero is one of the best defenders in the world right now, having won the Copa America and the World Cup with Argentina.

He has been a liability at times, but his partnership with van de Ven appears to have brought the best out of the 26-year-old this season.

Romero played like a man possessed during the North London derby as Tottenham desperately searched for a way back into the game.

And van de Ven was the man to make the decisive impact against Burnley today, doing brilliantly to find the bottom corner late on to score what would prove to be the winner.

It may still be a somewhat underwhelming end to the campaign for Tottenham, but clearly, they have a centre-back partnership which Postecoglou can build the side around in the years to come.
