Lucas Paqueta's wife sends message to West Ham after lap of honour

Lucas Paqueta’s wife Duda Fournier has sent a message to West Ham after the lap of honour following the final home game.

West Ham ran out 3-1 winners over Luton on an emotional day at the London Stadium.

There were a number of subplots to the game, the biggest being the fact it was David Moyes’ big farewell.

It was also a goodbye at home for Angelo Ogbonna, who received a standing ovation when substituted late on.

Aaron Cresswell may also have been saying goodbye as well as Ben Johnson and Divin Mubama.

But it may also have been a last game in front of West Ham’s home fans for Lucas Paqueta.

West Ham’s players – Paqueta included – did not read the script in another poor first half performance.

The Hammers looked like they were playing a pre-season friendly as Luton took an early lead.

Was it also goodbye to Paqueta?

They turned things around in the second half, though, to ensure the send-off for Moyes ended on the right note.

Paqueta has been accused of coasting by many West Ham fans of late.

Speculation has been rife that he will be leaving this summer with Man City expected to resurrect their interest after seeing an £85m move collapse last year.

That was because of the investigation which was opened against him by the FA over alleged involvement in illegal betting on yellow cards.

It has been reported that the FA have until the end of next week to charge West Ham’s playmaker or they must drop the case.

If dropped, Man City are reported to be ready to do the deal.

Some fans believe Paqueta’s heart has not been in it in recent months.

But the player’s partner sees things differently.

Paqueta’s wife sends heartfelt message to West Ham

Following the final home game of each season, players and staff are joined on the pitch by their families to do a lap of honour to thank supporters for their backing.

The comeback win against Luton made that a more experience occasion and ensured Moyes could enjoy his goodbye.

Paqueta’s wife Duda Fournier, their kids and other family members joined him for the lap, which could be his last action at the London Stadium as a Hammer.

And she took to social media afterwards to make one thing clear.

Fournier posted a series of pictures and videos on Instagram.

One showed Paqueta with his children decked out in Hammers kits walking around the pitch. She also zoomed in on fans applauding them.

‘Our family loves you’

It was captioned: “West Ham, our family loves you,” alongside heart and Hammers emojis.

A lovely message and shows the Paqueta family do love it at the club, something he confirmed himself recently.

Whether that is a goodbye of sorts is unclear.

But we won’t have too long to find out.

The summer transfer window opens for domestic deals – between English clubs – on June 14th.

First of course the case which has been hanging over him for the last nine months must be settled.

Then another parting of the ways may well be on the cards.

Whatever happens and whatever fans think of Paqueta after his recent performances, he should always be remembered as the man who played that pass to enable West Ham to win their first major trophy for 43 years.

That was worth the £51m the club spent on him alone.
