Man Utd legend Wayne Rooney claims 'fantastic' Arsenal star is 'a bit like Marc Overmars'

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has claimed one Arsenal star reminds him of former Gooner Marc Overmars.

The Gunners secured a huge result at Old Trafford as Leandro Trossard’s first-half strike was all that was needed to seperate Arsenal from United, with the Premier League title race now set to go to the final game of the season.

With Manchester City taking on Tottenham on Tuesday, Arsenal fans and players will be hopeful that their north London rivals will give them a big push towards the title by getting a massive result of their own, with Mikel Arteta’s side needing to beat Everton next weekend.

Rooney likens Bukayo Saka to Arsenal icon Overmars

Speaking on Sky Sports ahead of Arsenal’s encounter at Old Trafford, Rooney revealed his admiration for Bukayo Saka, who this season has been one of Arteta’s most important players and one of the most productive attackers in the Premier League.

Indeed, Saka has enjoyed his best season to date as a professional this campaign, and the winger showed in Manchester today against United why he is a potential Arsenal legend in the making for many supporters.

Rooney said when asked what he thinks of Saka and his impact at Arsenal: “I think he’s fantastic. Over the last couple of years he’s been one of the best players in the Premier League.

“What’s really refreshing about him is what you see from the wide players is they always want to come inside, but he mixes it up, he makes runs off the ball and behind, a bit like Marc Overmars, he’d make those runs and come in behind, he’s effective and scores goals, and he’s a big-game player.”

Saka is on course to become one of Arsenal’s best-ever attackers

At 22, it feels like Saka has been around forever, with the winger being a regular for the Gunners since the age of 19 and continuing to develop with each passing season under Arteta’s tutelage.

And at his current pace, Saka is set to become one of Arsenal’s best-ever attackers, with the winger only getting better and becoming more productive as the years go on in north London.

Barring any major injuries or fitness problems, Saka has all the tools needed to become a legend for the Gunners, with the youngster still at the start of his exciting career.
