Nottingham Forest can start looking towards the summer transfer window having all but secured Premier League football for next season.
It’s rare to feel happy after a defeat, but few could really blame Forest fans for something of a buzz on Saturday night.
Luton Town’s defeat at West Ham United meant Forest had all but achieved safety before even kicking a ball against Chelsea.
Forest did end up losing 3-2 when even a point would have officially secured survival, but it just wasn’t to be.
Even so, Forest can now head into the final day knowing that only a freak goal swing could put Nuno Espirito Santo and co in trouble.
Forest can now start to look ahead to a third successive Premier League campaign – and look to find some signings for next season.
Nottingham Forest want Marvin Ducksch
Forest have now had two scrapes with the relegation battle and the hope will be that a positive summer window can help prevent similar battles in a year’s time.
Attacking additions will be needed as Forest look for another goalscoring source alongside Chris Wood and Taiwo Awoniyi.
The Sunday Mirror (12/05, p65) report that Forest have been given the chance to sign Werder Bremen forward Marvin Ducksch.
We have seen Ducksch linked with a £13million move to Forest in the past, but no deal was done.
The price has come down now though with Ducksch allegedly having a £5million release clause in his deal which can be activated this summer.
It’s suggested that Forest’s pursuit of Ducksch ended in December due to breaching the Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules.
With Divock Origi now expected to move on this summer, Ducksch could come back into the picture in a cut-price move.
Who is Forest target Ducksch?
Ducksch hails from Dortmund and started his career in the Borussia Dortmund ranks.
The 6ft 2in forward joined Dortmund at the age of eight and spent 14 years in the ranks before heading to St Pauli in 2016.
Ducksch struggled there but thrived on loan at Holstein Kiel, only to then struggle again with a 2018 move to Fortuna Dusseldorf.
A 2019 switch to Hannover 96 helped Ducksch get back on track with 34 goals in 70 appearances.
Now with Werder Bremen following a 2021 switch, Ducksch has smashed 45 goals and 27 assists in 97 games – including 12 goals and eight assists this season.
Primarily a striker who can also play on the left flank, Ducksch has now earned two caps for Germany and could still be in the mix for Euro 2024.
£5million seems like a bargain for Ducksch and Forest may well be tempted to pull the trigger on a deal for the versatile forward.
