'He's been outstanding': BBC pundit amazed by £20m Arsenal star's first-half display against Manchester United

Clinton Morrison lauded one ‘outstanding’ Arsenal player after the first-half of their clash with Manchester United on Sunday, which has sent the Gunners back to the top of the Premier League table.

The Premier League title race will indeed go down to the final day after Leandro Trossard gave the Gunners the three points at Old Trafford.

Trossard bagged the only goal of the game, turning in Kai Havertz’s cross during the first-half. Arsenal were nowhere near their best against Erik ten Hag’s side, but they were able to get the job done and jump back ahead of Manchester City at the summit.

Trossard has had a knack of scoring a number of crucial goals for Arsenal since arriving at the Emirates during the 2023 January transfer window.

Leandro Trossard ‘outstanding’ for Arsenal at Manchester United

The 29-year-old has now scored 12 league goals this season, and his form has been rewarded with Mikel Arteta handing him a run in the side on the left wing over the last few weeks.

Of course, it had been Gabriel Martinelli who had been a stalwart of the side for much of the last couple of years, but Trossard has, once again, vindicated Arteta’s faith.

And speaking on BBC Radio Five Live (broadcast on 12/5; 17:20), Clinton Morrison suggested that he was so impressed by the Belgian’s display during the first-half against United.

“Yeah, and that’s what Trossard’s been. John [Murray] alluded to it in commentary, that’s why he’s keeping out Martinelli at the moment, because he’s been outstanding on that left-hand side. It was a great run from out to in, and he just gets across the defender and puts it into the near post,” he said.

One of Mikel Arteta’s best signings

Pound for pound, Trossard has to be in contention for being one of Arsenal’s smartest signings, particularly if the Gunners go on and win the title from here.

The Gunners spent £20 million up front for the forward, and he has since scored 16 goals across the Premier League and Champions League this season.

And if Arsenal do now win the title, many will reflect on Trossard’s latest strike as such a pivotal moment in the title race.
