Gary Neville claims one Arsenal star was 'quiet' v Man Utd, he had fewer touches than Raya

Gary Neville has claimed one of Arsenal’s star players had a ‘quiet’ game against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Mikel Arteta’s side claimed a 1-0 win that ensures that the Premier League title will go down to the final game of the season, with Manchester City facing Tottenham on Tuesday in a game that could define the entire season for both clubs.

Whilst Arsenal’s win at Old Trafford wasn’t the best by any stretch, the north London side got the job done and now have a shot at making history in what has been one of the best seasons the Gunners have ever experienced.

Yet in today’s win against United, one of Arsenal’s star players had a game to forget.

Martin Odegaard criticised after no-show performance vs Manchester United

Speaking on Sky Sports‘ coverage of the match, Neville noted how Martin Odegaard was ‘quiet’ in midfield for the Gunners in what was one of the Arsenal captain’s worst performances for some time.

Taking fewer touches than David Raya, the Norwegian international failed to influence the game and was also wasteful in front of goal with the few chances Odegaard had to punish United.

Indeed, had Arsenal failed to win today, Odegaard’s performance would have been highlighted more intensely given how absent the playmaker was, and Neville noticed this in the second-half.

The United legend said when commenting on Odegaard’s performance: “Arsenal need to get Odegaard on the ball, he’s been a bit quiet in this game. They need him.”

Odegaard will want to end the season on a massive high

Despite his performance against United, Odegaard has still been one of the best midfielders in the Premier League this season and one of Arsenal’s most important players.

And with one game left to go, Odegaard will want to end the year on a massive high against Everton, which could result in the playmaker lifting the Premier League trophy if all goes to plan.

Indeed, Odegaard will be the first to admit that his display against United was poor, yet the 25-year-old will be desperate to amend what we saw with a top performance against Everton next week.
