'I am told': £50m player is now starting to accept he may need to leave Chelsea - journalist

One Chelsea star does not seem to be too sure about his future in west London.

With the transfer window not too far away, some Chelsea players could be departing the club soon.

That includes Conor Gallagher, who is about to enter the final year of his contract, while there are also doubts about Raheem Sterling‘s future.

The winger has lost his spot in Mauricio Pochettino‘s starting XI and has been linked with a move to MLS.

Sterling cost Chelsea £50m but has not really made the desired impact. This season, he has scored seven goals in 29 Premier League appearances.

Chelsea star not ruling out exit

Sterling’s future really does look to be up in the air at the moment.

One source has told journalist Simon Phillips that the 29-year-old wants to remain at Stamford Bridge this summer, but another has also claimed that he is starting to accept that a move elsewhere may be what is best for him.

On his Substack, Phillips wrote: “At the moment, I am told that it is his desire to stay at Chelsea, that is what is coming from his side.

“But I’ve also heard from another source that Sterling is starting to accept that he might need to leave Chelsea if he wants to play regular football moving forward, and at this stage of his career, he wants to play because he still has a desire to get back into the England squad and has not given up on that yet.

“The source has said Sterling wants to see how it goes and is open to hearing any offers that come in for him this summer.”

Raheem Sterling’s stats this season

In total, Sterling has scored nine goals and provided eight assists in 41 outings.

In the Premier League, to go with his seven strikes, the England international also has four assists.

He is the fourth-best dribbler in Pochettino’s squad right now, completing 1.4 dribbles per game, according to WhoScored.

Those are not the worst stats, but costing £50m and after everything that he accomplished at Manchester City, Chelsea fans would have been expecting a bit more from Sterling.

With his future now in doubt, they may not get to see that next season either. He is certainly a name to keep an eye on in the upcoming transfer window.
