The real truth about Liverpool activating £85 million Mohammed Kudus release clause

West Ham United star Mohammed Kudus is being heavily linked with a move to join Liverpool this summer.

Mohammed Kudus joined West Ham from Ajax in the summer of 2023, and his brilliant debut campaign in the Premier League has already drawn admiring glances from Liverpool.

It has been claimed that the Hammers attacker has a release clause in his contract – one that the owners have tried to keep quiet and downplay.

Kudus has bagged a really impressive 14 goals and six assists for West Ham during his first season in England (Transfermarkt) – a mighty fine return.

The Ghana international seems to be perfectly built for Premier League football what with his pace, power and impressive upper body strength.

The biggest battle on the Hammers’ hands will be keeping hold of him for the next few years.

However, there is a big untruth doing the rounds about Kudus’s release clause and Liverpool activating it…

Liverpool could activate £85m Mohammed Kudus release clause

With Jurgen Klopp leaving Anfield this summer, Arne Slot faces a big task ahead.

The Dutchman will be desperate to add some top quality to his attacking ranks this summer.

Kudus is the kind of player who will undoubtedly appeal to Slot, and the Merseyside club are apparently ready to make their move.

Ghanasoccernet claim that Liverpool are set to trigger an £85 million release clause in Kudus’s contract.

However, there is a big problem with that claim.

Here’s the real truth about the Ghanaian’s release clause, and it’s not good news for Liverpool…

So Ghanasoccernet are claiming that the Merseyside giants are ready to prise Kudus away from the London Stadium this summer.

Whilst that may well be true, they won’t be able to activate his £85 million release clause.

Here’s why…

Kudus’s release clause does not come into play until the summer of 2025, according to the closest source there is to David Sullivan – Sean Whetstone.

So there is absolutely no way the Reds will be activating that clause this summer.

However, Liverpool could obviously just make a bid for Kudus, without activating any kind of release clause.

I think West Ham will keep hold of the 23-year-old for at least one more season. He has been sensational for us during his debut campaign at the London Stadium, but there will undoubtedly be a clamour for his signature in the summer of 2025.

Can we match his ambition under incoming manager Julen Lopetegui? That remains to be seen.
