Report: 'Special' player is interested in working with Eddie Howe as Newcastle close in on signing

Newcastle United’s centre-backs woes could soon be over.

While things will likely not improve before the end of the season with Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles suffering from ACL injuries and Fabian Schar having a hamstring problem, the defensive outlook for Newcastle United next season is suddenly looking much brighter.

The Magpies are currently chasing two centre-backs, both of which are due to become free agents. Newcastle are the favourites to sign Lloyd Kelly from Bournemouth, while Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo is also a target.

While the former has looked more likely to sign for Newcastle for months, it is actually the latter who appears to be closest to moving to St James’ Park.

Update on Newcastle United’s interest in Tosin Adarabioyo

It was recently reported that Newcastle are actually more interested in signing Tosin than Kelly, due to the fact he can play as a right-sided centre-back.

And the latest update from the Daily Mail suggests that Eddie Howe‘s side are closing in on an important deal.

According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle United are now the club that is most likely to sign Tosin, with a deal for the 26-year-old defender described as close.

They add that talks have taken place in recent days, which has allowed the Magpies to move into pole position in this transfer race.

Why Tosin is interested in signing for Newcastle United

The Daily Mail have shared a few reasons why Tosin is suddenly very keen to swap Craven Cottage for St James’ Park.

They state that the Fulham man has been impressed by Newcastle United’s project and ambition, while he also finds the prospect of working with Eddie Howe very appealing.

That is no surprise, given how many players have improved under Howe since working with him at Newcastle United. He is an absolute master at getting the most out of his players and helping take their game to the next level, as long as they buy into his methods.

It has worked wonders for Anthony Gordon, who has become one of the Premier League’s most impactful wingers and now looks likely to go to Euro 2024 with England.

That will serve as great inspiration for Tosin, who has previously been described as a ‘special‘ player and someone who really caught the eye of Pep Guardiola back when he first arrived at Manchester City.

Guardiola recognised that Adarabioyo was an exciting talent, and he has since developed into a solid Premier League centre-back. Now Newcastle are calling, and looked poised to get the chance to take his game to a whole new level.

The Magpies are moving fast, and appear to be closer than ever to reaching an agreement with Tosin.
