Barry Bannan shares 3-word message after being thanked for classy gesture at Sheffield Wednesday this week

Barry Bannan has shared a three-word message on social media after he was thanked for his classy gesture at Sheffield Wednesday.

Barry Bannan is adored in Yorkshire for his nine years with Sheffield Wednesday, while he looks set to make it a decade at the club with a new contract this summer.

The midfielder hasn’t just been praised for his performances on the pitch though, having already been hailed for his work with The Children’s Hospital Charity earlier this year.

Bannanraised over £75,000 for the charity after hosting a fundraising event in Sheffield back in March, with journalist Joe Crann praising the Owls captain as an ‘absolute credit’ to the club.

The 34-year-old hasn’t stopped there though, and has now been thanked by the Sheffield Wednesday Ladies team for his latest gesture.

‘A big thanks to Barry’

The Ladies squad travelled to the New York Stadium to take on Rotherham United yesterday, with Bannan paying a helping hand before the match.

They wrote on their X account: “All aboard the @bazzabannan25 bus! A big thanks to Barry, who kindly paid for our transport to the New York Stadium today!”

Bannan responded with: “All the best.”

The Owls went onto lose 2-0 to their local rivals, but still appreciated the heartwarming gesture from the Scot.

Sheffield Wednesday need to keep Bannan until retirement

Bannan has been one of Sheffield Wednesday‘s most important players on the pitch for years now, and it’s moments like these that you understand being a captain takes more responsibility than just leading the team into a football match.

The former Scotland international is the perfect role model to the rest of the squad and there is no doubt that he could play a key role if the Owls are to push further up the table next term.

Wednesday desperately needs to get him tied down to a new contract, and if they can do that, then surely we will see Bannan retire at Hillsborough.

It’s unclear what his plans are for the future, but if Danny Rohl is still here beyond this season, then it would be great to see the pair on the coaching staff together.

Bannan has been so important to the Owls for years now and it would be a real shame to see his career end anywhere else.
