Alan Nixon has reacted to rumours that Hull City would like to appoint Sheffield Wednesday coach Danny Rohl as their new manager.
Danny Rohl became a hero at Sheffield Wednesday earlier this month when he guided the club to safety on the final day.
A six-game unbeaten run at the end of the season ensured they finished three points above the relegation zone, despite starting his managerial stint seven points adrift.
Sheffield Wednesday supporters are now desperate to keep hold of the head coach and staying up has certainly given them a huge boost.
There was concerns when Sunderlandlodged their interest in recent months, though they don’t seem to have pushed any further ahead with their interest since losing to the Owls on the last day of the campaign.
How likely are Hull City to snap up Danny Rohl?
Wednesday did face fresh interest from Hull City though, with reports claiming their Yorkshire rivals were big fans of Rohl after sacking Liam Rosenior.
The chance of fighting for promotion next season, plus a likely hefty transfer kitty, could have been tempting for the German.
However, journalist Alan Nixon has now played down talk of a move to Hull.
When asked what the situation was regarding Rohl’s future, Nixon wrote: “He’s not going to Hull.”
His comments come after The Star reported that any club interested in Rohl would be required to pay around £15 million to snap him up alongside his staff.
The fee makes it incredibly unlikely that Championship clubs would be able to afford to lure the 35-year-old away, while reports have claimed that Hull have already turned their attention to former Hamburg coach Tim Walter.
Rohl’s chances of staying at Sheffield Wednesday are looking bright
With Sunderland also thought to be keen on out-of-work Will Still, Wednesday could be on track to keep hold of their star man.
While there will surely be interest elsewhere, Rohl’s relationship with the supporters and success in keeping them in the second tier feels like a good sign that he will stay for at least another year at Hillsborough.
The coach’s status at Wednesday means Dejphon Chansiri is likely to open his wallet to provide funds for new transfers, and fans can surely expect a very promising second campaign under the German.
A full pre-season under his belt should work wonders too, while a successful January window suggests Rohl knows exactly what he needs to improve this squad.
