'Fallen off a cliff': Gabby Agbonlahor drops brutal verdict on Wolves after latest 3-1 defeat

Gabby Agbonlahor has given Wolves both barrels following a run of poor results over the last couple of months.

Gary O’Neil‘s side were in contention for European football only a few weeks ago, and there was genuine optimism within the fanbase.

But the team have fallen just short in the end, with injuries to key players proving really costly. Fatigue has well and truly set in, because some players have played a lot of minutes having been unable to be rotated much.

After losing 3-1 to Crystal Palace on Saturday, Wolves now sit 13th in the Premier League table, and head into the final game with Liverpool on Sunday in pretty awful form.

It is just one win in nine in the league, and Wolves also crashed out of the FA Cup to Coventry City amid that run.

The recent slump led Gabby Agbonlahor to take a swipe at Wolves on Saturday…

Since the end of the January transfer window, O’Neil has been hit with several injuries.

Matheus Cunha, Hwang Hee-chan and Pedro Neto were all ruled out with hamstring injuries, with the latter having still not returned to match action.

Craig Dawson has proven to be a big miss at the back.

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde also missed a handful of games, and the situation has undoubtedly been tricky for O’Neil.

But that hasn’t stopped Gabby Agbonlahor from going in on Wolves for their recent run of results. He said on talkSPORT (11/05, 5:35pm): “They are getting away with murder. I mean, one win in their last nine games, which was against Luton. No offence to Luton, but should be beating them anyway. We can say one win in 10, if you add in the FA Cup defeat to Coventry where they crumbled.

“So, I am looking at them now in the table and thinking like also if Everton didn’t lose their eight points, Everton would be above them, so is it a good season for Wolves?”

Jamie O’Hara said: “Yes, it is considering the fact that they were one of the favourites to go down.”

Agbonlahor replied: “They were, but in the first half of the season, they did well, but in the second half, they have fallen off a cliff. One win in nine is not good enough. They have got some good players, mate. They have got some very good players.”

Agbonlahor is ignoring the circumstances at Wolves

So Agbonlahor has been less than impressed with Wolves recently, and the ex-Aston Villa man has no doubt been waiting for an opportunity to criticise.

He is definitely ignoring the full picture at Wolves.

Yes, some performances haven’t been good enough and Wolves should have picked up more points than they have over the last couple of months.

But injuries have been hugely costly. Not only because key players have been missing, but because O’Neil has had to put square pegs in round holes, and the squad has just been run into the ground.

It is still a good season from Wanderers considering the chaos of the summer.
