Aston Villa now keen on signing £26m defender dubbed one of the best in the world in his position

Aston Villa are looking to further strengthen their ranks this summer and they are now being linked with one of the top right-backs around.

Unai Emery has had a remarkable season leading Villa and they are a win away from finishing in the top four and securing Champions League football next season.

For Emery, the summer will be massive for him in terms of adding to the squad and that goes for if they do end up missing out on the top four as well.

New signings are always welcomed by managers of any club. And after Villa spent heavily in the last few windows to improve things, it looks like they could splash out again.

This time, by making a move for Inter Milan and Holland full-back, Denzel Dumfries.

Aston Villa keen on signing Denzel Dumfries

According to a report from Tuttomercatoweb, Villa have now joined the line of clubs looking to bring Dumfries in from Inter Milan this summer.

It’s claimed that Inter could be willing to cash in on the Dutchman and accept a bid of around £26m to sell the right-back.

Dumfries has been a target for a number of big clubs for some time now, with Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag among those keen to sign him.

Indeed, Dumfries is even said to be keen and open to moving to Old Trafford.

However, if Villa can pinch that final Champions League spot, then Dumfries could well be tempted by the move to Villa Park.

One of the best in the world

There’s a lot of good full-backs in the world right now but it looks like the Netherlands have two of the very best around

Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong is among the options for the Dutch and he has admitted that he’ll have to play wherever he’s needed due to Dumfries’ quality.

“I will play wherever the coach wants, both with Leverkusen and the Dutch national team whenever I get the chance,” said the Bundesliga star in his interview with Ziggo Sport via FcInterNews.

“This is what every footballer wants. However, I’m aware of the strong competition in the national team.

“I knew it would be difficult for me, because Denzel Dumfries is one of the best right-backs in the world.”

Villa, then, could well be getting a top player and whileMatty Cash has always done well since signing, few would argue that Dumfries will represent an upgrade.
