N.J man dies after cops find him in ‘active distress’ on residential street

A man died at an area hospital last week after Brick police found him in a “state of active distress” on a residential street in the Ocean County town, authorities said.

Police called to the area of Wisteria and Vermont drives just before 4:30 p.m. Thursday found the man in the street, the state Office of the Attorney General said.

Officers handcuffed the man and brought him to the nearby grass, authorities said. Emergency workers brought the man to Ocean University Medical Center in town.

He was pronounced dead at 5:48 p.m. His cause of death and additional information wasn’t immediately available.

The state Office of the Attorney General investigates when someone dies during an encounter with police or in the custody of law enforcement.
