Disappointing end to the season for Leverington Sports

A season so full of promise for Leverington Sports ended in disappointment as two defeats last week made it four losses on the trot.

Sports finish sixth in the Peterborough League Premier Division and are 11 points shy of champions Moulton Harrox.

On Saturday, Jordan Webb scored their goal in a 4-1 defeat at Stanground Sports, with Webb also netting twice in a 4-3 home reversal to Deeping Rangers Reserves the previous Tuesday.

Tydd avoided relegation by a point but were thrashed in their last game of the season, 11-1 at Stamford Belvedere, Charlie Michella making it eight goals in 14 games.

In Division One, Wisbech Town Reserves climbed off the bottom with a 3-1 home win over promotion-chasing Cardea last Tuesday, Matthew Pope netting twice and Leandro Borges also on target. The Fenmen rounded off a disappointing season with a 2-1 home defeat against Glinton & Northborough on Saturday.

Chatteris Town ended their season with a 1-1 draw at Holbeach United Sports, Oliver Smith coming off the bench to score but Martin Saunders sent off for two bookable offences. The Lilies are likely to finish third if Cardea win one of their final two games, with promotion spots to be decided when the league meets in July.

Leverington Sports Reserves lost 5-2 at Warboys Town Reserves in Division Two last Tuesday, sub Gary Green netting both. On Saturday they drew 2-2 at bottom side Kings Cliffe, Robert Hitchcock’s double taking him to ten for the season from 16 games.

Tydd Reserves lost 4-2 at Stamford Belvedere Reserves, with their final game of the season due to be played at Leverington Sports Reserves last night (Tuesday).

Marshland Saints were beaten 4-2 on penalties by Clenchwarton Reserves in the final of the North West Norfolk League Charlie Day Cup, following a 3-3 draw at Heacham.
