Spain is preparing a new aid package for Ukraine, which could be finalized by June 30, El Pais reports.

Sources of the agency say that the aid package will include:

  • large-caliber artillery ammunition,
  • light and heavy machine guns,
  • protected wheeled logistics vehicles,
  • armored infantry vehicles,
  • anti-tank weapons and shells for field artillery,
  • the first 10 battle tanks from a batch of 19 Leopard 2 A4s being restored.

In turn, Spanish companies will supply anti-aircraft surveillance systems and remote weapons stations to protect against drones.

According to the sources, Spanish military assistance to Ukraine is likely to be channeled through NATO. At the summit scheduled for July 9-11 in Washington on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the North Atlantic Alliance, "more effective mechanisms" will be approved to channel future military aid to Ukraine.

Sources say that the idea is that NATO itself will coordinate supplies from different countries, replacing the Ukraine Defense Contact Group

Spain's assistance to Ukraine

Spain has provided significant assistance to Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian invasion in 2022. Thus, Madrid has provided Kyiv with military aid worth more than €300 million, including weapons and ammunition, communications and intelligence equipment, and medical equipment.

Spain also trains the Ukrainian military to work with Spanish weapons.

In January, it was reported that Spain had decided to refurbish armored ambulances and donate them to Ukraine as aid.
