'I think' – Peter Schmeichel baffled by what he saw from two Man Utd stars during Arsenal match, he called them both out

Peter Schmeichel called out two Manchester United stars for their lack of communication after Arsenal secured a 1-0 Premier League win at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Leandro Trossard’s first-half opener was enough to seal all three points for Premier League leaders Arsenal on their trip to the Theatre of Dreams.

Manchester United were unable to rally back into the contest, with Erik ten Hag’s men producing another underwhelming performance this season.

The Red Devils are eighth in the Premier League table and are three points behind seventh-place Chelsea and sixth-place Newcastle with two matches remaining.

Arsenal, on the other hand, ensured their return to the top of the Premier League table with their win over United and hold a one-point lead over Manchester City.

However, Mikel Arteta’s men have played one match more than defending champions Manchester City in the nail-biting Premier League title race.

Under-fire United manager Erik ten Hag felt further pressure on his shoulders after his side suffered their second consecutive Premier League defeat last week.

Schmeichel baffled at two Man Utd stars

Arsenal took advantage of Manchester United’s injury-hit defence to take the lead at Old Trafford in the 20th minute.

Casemiro, who has been deployed as a makeshift centre-back in recent weeks, was at fault after he recklessly played Arsenal star Kai Havertz onside.

Kai Havertz darted into the box from the right and shifted the ball away from Jonny Evans before he drilled a low cross to an onrushing Leandro Trossard.

Trossard slotted the ball into the empty net as a helpless Andre Onana was at the front post and Casemiro failed to pick up the Arsenal star.

Speaking on Premier League Productions, a baffled Peter Schmeichel slammed Andre Onana and Casemiro for failing to communicate effectively during the threat.

“From a defending point of view, obviously, there are a few mistakes in there,” he said, as per the Metro.

“So, what you have here, you’ve got Casemiro, we talked about this before the game, Casemiro is not a centre-half, I think he proved that on Monday night.

“As a team, you have to help each other, teammates have got to help each other.

“Casemiro hangs in there, we don’t see Onana, Onana should be pushing up behind him and actually say, ‘Go further forward.’ He doesn’t do that; he actually stays on his line.”

Schmeichel on ‘problems’ at Man Utd

Schmeichel, who dropped his verdict on Erik ten Hag’s future at Old Trafford, insisted that the United performance against Arsenal showed their “problems.”

The United legend believes that the Red Devils have “very much” been about individual performances rather than playing together as a robust team.

“When we talk about being a team, you have to help each other out,” Schmeichel continued.

“You talk about how well Arsenal did there [for the goal], how well they looked at each other and got the timing right, but this is one of the problems Manchester United have at the moment, it’s very much individual performances and they don’t look like a team.

“Today is a great example of it all about being, ‘When you get the ball, I’m going to try and score a goal and I’m not going to look at any teammates, I’m just going to try myself.’

“This, for me, is when we talk about standards and what Manchester United play is, this is what’s gone out of it, in certain ways, I’m not going to accuse the team of being uncoached, but there seems not to be a system or an idea of ‘When we do this, these are your options, this is what you can do, or pass it out to there.’”
