Three centre-backs Inter Miami should look to sign this summer including Sergio Ramos

Inter Miami have arguably the best squad ever assembled by an MLS team, yet there are some noticeable problems with the roster.

Away from Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, the quality in defense is something that has been brought up numerous times this season by pundits and experts, with Inter Miami keeping just two clean sheets all season.

With the Herons also conceding first in every single one of their recent recent wins, it’s clear that Inter Miami need to invest if possible in a new defender, and one that arguably has the experience to work alongside the likes of Suarez.

With that said, here are three defenders Inter Miami could target and sign in the summer transfer window.

Easily the biggest name on this list, Sergio Ramos is a defender who does not need any introduction, with the Spanish soccer legend one of the greatest center-backs to ever play the game for both club and country.

Whilst Ramos is now 38-years-old, the Sevilla star is showing no sign of retiring just yet, though current rumors suggest that the former Real Madrid and PSG defender could be set for a summer move at the end of this season.

And with Inter Miami already linked with Ramos, it makes sense for the Herons to move for the veteran defender, who even at his age could be a sensational signing for Tata Martino’s side and a clear improvement at the back.

Another veteran defender who looks set for a move this summer is Sporting Lisbon captain Sebastian Coates, who at 34-years-old played a massive role in the Portuguese side reclaiming the Primeira Liga title.

And international teammate of Suarez’s and experienced in the Premier League with the likes of Liverpool and Sunderland, Inter Miami and MLS feels like a logical next step for Coates, who could be tempted by a move to Florida.

With the defender’s salary also likely to be on the low end of the spectrum, Inter Miami could work their financial magic to bring Coates in this summer if the center-back leaves Sporting, with his contract due to expire at the end of the season.

Something of a forgotten figure in the European soccer scene, Yerry Mina was once considered one of the most exciting young defenders are making the move from Colombia to FC Barcelona.

Since then, the 29-year-old has had spells at Everton, ACF Fiorentina and now Cagliari, where despite being a regular, Mina’s contract is due to expire at the end of this season.

Whilst Mina didn’t set the world alight, the Colombian international would be quite the addition for Inter Miami, and as a former Barcelona player, there will already be a clique for the center-back to join in Florida.
