State trying to 'psychologically torture' Trump in 'depressing' courthouse: MAGA senators

J.D. Vance / Gage Skidmore.

Donald Trump is on trial for 34 felony counts in Manhattan, and his allies spent early Monday afternoon standing outside the courtroom and defending him by attacking the judge and his daughter, the jury pool, the state of the courtroom and how "boring" the trial is.

Sens. J.D. Vance (R-OH) and Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) stood behind Trump as he spoke to the press on Monday morning ahead of Michael Cohen's testimony.

Trump rambled on about his polls while Vance held up his cell phone to capture a photo for his own mementos.

"We started in Trump Tower with a beautiful view of Central Park. Then you come to a dingy court house (sic) with people like Alvin Bragg," said Vance on X during the morning session. "They prevent his supporters from getting too close to the court house (sic), and they prevent his friends from standing too close to him. The president is expected to sit here for six weeks to listen to the Michael Cohens of the world. I’m now convinced the main goal of this trial is psychological torture. But Trump is in great spirits."

Tuberville also trashed the court as the "most depressing thing I've ever been in."

He and Tuberville ridiculed people wearing masks.

"It looks like we forgot our masks," Tuberville told him, and Vance replied with a laughing emoji.

The American Cancer Society explained that people with serious illnesses wear masks to protect themselves from the seasonal flu or COVID because it can be deadly.

Vance then defended Trump for falling asleep in court.Several observers inside the courtroom noticed Trump falling asleep during the first week of the trial.

"I saw a media report a few days ago that Trump looked like he was falling asleep or bored or something. The obvious narrative they’re trying to sell is, 'Yeah Biden is mentally unfit but this other guy is bad too.' It’s an absurd narrative. I’m 39 years old and I’ve been here for 26 minutes and I’m about to fall asleep," Vance posted on X.

Trump spent most of the 2016 campaign referring to Joe Biden as "Sleepy Joe," which is why Trump falling asleep in court has become an issue.

At the morning break, Tuberville complained that they're referring to Trump as "Mr. Trump" rather than "President Trump." He said that it isn't respectful.

"I’m a friend of Trump. I’m here more as a friend than uh backing him as candidate as president," Tuberville said. "I’m sitting there listening to a guy on the stand that they had to get out of house arrest. He’s a confected — convicted felon… He worked for Trump."

Cohen is not currently under house arrest.

Tuberville went on to attack the jury and others in the room, alleging that they weren't legitimate Americans.

"I am disappointed in looking at the American citizens— the supposedly American citizens in that courtroom," Tuberville said

Trump continues to maintain his innocence for the charges.
