Movie star upset his fame took a toll on his sisters - 'I'm sorry for this darkness'

Acclaimed actor Robert Pattinson previously apologized to his sisters in an interview for the “darkness” his fame brought them.

Known for a wide range of roles, Robert Pattinson has grown to become one of the most celebrated and instantly recognizable actors of his generation. For many years, the 38-year-old English star was known for the part of Edward in the immensely successful Twilight saga, but if you asked the majority of audiences today, they’d sooner gush over his array of later movies than dwell on his time as a sparkling vampire. He’s turned in great performances in the likes of The Lighthouse, Good Time, and The Batman, but with greater fame in Hollywood, he’s acknowledged a greater price to pay…

Robert Pattinson apologized to his sisters for effects of his fame

Rewinding to a 2015 interview with The Guardian, Robert once addressed how he felt about his family receiving more exposure as a result of his stardom.

“With my sisters… you just bring people into something they have not asked to be part of,” he argued. “It’s impossible for you to stop it afterward. All you can say is: ‘I’m sorry. I’m sorry for bringing this darkness into your life. And also you don’t get anything out of it either.’ It’s just nothing but bad, yeah.”

His sisters Lizzy and Victoria are both older, and some may remember that Lizzy was once a contestant on the UK talent show The X Factor in 2014.

At the time of the interview, Rob was promoting the 2015 James Dean biopic Life, in which he portrayed photographer Dennis Stock. The movie seems Dennis welcomed into the Rebel Without A Cause actor’s life when taking photos, and meeting his family.

“The idea of taking a photographer back to my family’s house… it’s just insane!” he said, which is what got him onto the subject of his sisters. He spoke of “bringing your family into the public domain and then having to have them deal with this horrible cacophony of demons who live on the internet.”

He vented further, claiming “That’s really ruined a lot of things, internet trolls, because no one wants to put themselves out there. Even if you can ignore it, and I don’t think anyone can really ignore it.”

Robert Pattinson started his own family this year

Although Rob was apologetic for indirectly bringing his sisters into the spotlight, the in-demand actor has recently started a family of his own.

He and his partner Suki Waterhouse, the 32-year-old English singer-songwriter, began dating sometime in 2018 and the couple’s baby was born in March 2024.

“Welcome to the world angel,” Suki wrote in an Instagram post showing her cradling the baby.

No name was announced, so it’s clear that Rob and Suki are keen to keep their private life just that. All the same, fans have been vocal about celebrating the start of the actor’s new family.

His next movie has already been announced too: Mickey 17. Directed by the Oscar-winning South Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-ho, it’s a sci-fi also set to star Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo. It hits theaters on Friday, January 31st 2025.
