Former President Donald Trump appeared to have a visible reaction to testimony from his former attorney and fixer Michael Cohen, Fox News reported on Monday.

Cohen, who was paid by the former president and then arranged a hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels and later served time in prison, is presented as one of the most important witnesses in the Manhattan criminal prosecution of Trump brought by District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who alleges the scheme to cover up an alleged affair between Trump and Daniels was felony bookkeeping fraud to conceal an attempt to defraud voters in 2016.

"An update from ... inside the courtroom," the Fox host told former prosecutor Mark Eiglarsh. "When asked by the prosecutor why he did not include Trump — obviously, this being asked of Cohen — include Trump on any of the bank docs, Cohen said it was to protect him. ... It looks like Trump made a face when he said that, Mark."

It was the first time Trump, who experts say has been warned not to rise to Cohen, had a visible reaction Monday.

"Because it's convenient," Eiglarsh said immediately. "Yet again, there's no direct evidence that Donald Trump was in the weeds with Cohen."

Cohen's presence on the witness stand has been one of the most heavily anticipated and dramatic parts of the criminal proceeding, with Eric Trump even making a phone call from inside the courtroom to bash him, in apparent violation of Judge Juan Merchan's orders.

The former president's team has sought to discredit Cohen's character in order to blunt any harm he could do to their defense in testimony, noting that he has admitted to lying to Congress — although Cohen, for his part, has maintained that every lie he told was in service of Trump.
