What John McGinn has now said about Tottenham after Aston Villa’s draw on Monday

Aston Villa captain has now said something regarding Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the game against Manchester City tonight.

A Champions League finish is still on the cards for Tottenham with two games still to play, however, a lot would need to go in their favour.

Unai Emery’s side had the opportunity to clinch fourth spot on Monday night with a victory over Liverpool at Villa Park.

But they had to settle for a point after scoring two late goals to secure themselves a 3-3 draw against the Merseyside club.

Ange Postecoglou’s men face Manchester City tonight and anything other than a win would hand Aston Villa that fourth spot in the Champions League.

Having drawn against Jurgen Klopp’s side, the Villa captain had something to say about the game taking place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium tonight.

John McGinn shares his thoughts on Tottenham vs Manchester City

Tuesday night’s game against Pep Guardiola’s side could offer somewhat of a strange atmosphere across north London.

Anything other than a win for City would hand Arsenal with the opportunity to decide their own fate on the weekend in the title race.

And Spurs now still have something to play for going into the game after Villa failed to nail down the final spot in the top four.

Following Villa’s 3-3 draw with Liverpool, McGinn admitted he is going to be a City fan tonight as he’d like fourth spot secured before the weekend.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Scot said: “THere’s some of us that have never been close to Champions League football in our lives so the goal for us is massive.

“Throughout the season, I think what’s gone under the radar is you hear everyone’s injuries – we’re not comparing ourselves to other teams – but the manager’s got a no-excuse mentality. We’ve not used it as an excuse.

“People have kept writing us off all year and we’ve just floated under the radar nicely and we’re so, so close. We’ll get the Man City tops on for tomorrow night and see what happens.”

What Tottenham now need to qualify for the Champions League

Spurs now have six points to play for in the final week of the season and Villa currently sit five points ahead with one game to go.

Two wins from Tottenham’s final two games is absolutely essential if they have any hope of finishing fourth.

Of course, they will still be relying on Villa to slip up in their final game of the season which is against an in-form Crystal Palace.

There is a considerable goal difference [eight] between these two sides going into the final two games, however, if Spurs can win tonight they would close that going to close that marginally.

And across the season, Sheffield United – who Spurs play on Sunday – have been susceptible to allowing goals in with Newcastle United hitting them for eight on their own turf.

The goal difference does realistically mean Spurs would need two wins and Villa to lose, but two wins and a Villa draw could potentially work out if Spurs can somehow overturn a goal difference of eight.
