Didier Drogba sends message to Reece James after his Chelsea comeback against Nottingham Forest

Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has taken to social media to send a message to club captain Reece James.

The 24-year-old had not yet made an appearance in 2024 after suffering more injury heartbreak against Everton late last year.

This latest setback saw him decide to undergo surgery to try and put an end to his woes.

Whether this will be the case or not remains to be seen, however it didn’t take him long to get back into the swing of things as he came on with this side in real danger at the weekend.

He provided a wonderful assist for Nicolas Jackson late on, seeing them almost confirm their place in Europe for next season.

Drogba sends message to James

One person who was clearly delighted to see him back in the fold was Drogba, who sent a supportive message via his Instagram story.

He said: “The Captain is back.”

James will likely be cursing his luck a bit that he has not been able to feature until so late in the season, with them damaging his international prospects too.

James return may be too late for England call-up

The upcoming European Championships are likely to feature Cole Palmer and Conor Gallagher as far as England are concerned, however may come too soon for the likes of James, Levi Colwill and Ben Chilwell.

The skipper will also have returned to a situation he has not been too used to since being at Chelsea, and that’s having a very real rival challenging him for his place in the side.

Despite it being Malo Gusto’s first season at the club, he has proven that he has real potential to be a star of the future.

Whether he can feature on the opposite side is another story, or he may turn out to be one of the unluckiest players this club has ever had for being here during James’ tenure.
