Garth Crooks shares his absolutely mind-boggling theory why David Moyes is leaving West Ham

West Ham United manager David Moyes is leaving at the end of this season, and Garth Crooks has shared his bizarre theory as to why.

David Moyes leaving West Ham this summer is the best outcome for all parties involved, I have no doubts about that.

Julen Lopetegui is thought to be the man who will replace Moyes on July 1st, when the Scot’s contract officially expires.

On the whole, Moyes has worked wonders at the London Stadium over the past four-and-a-half years, nobody can deny that.

He guided us to three successive European campaigns and helped end our 43-year wait for a major trophy.

Karren Brady recently praised the 61-year-old for the job he has done at West Ham both on and off the pitch.

Moyes clung on to his job for a year too long in my opinion. That’s not to say that he didn’t deserve a good send off, but it is what it is.

Now Crooks is the latest pundit to have fallen into the all familiar trap that other pundits have been caught out by before…

Garth Crooks shares theory why David Moyes is leaving West Ham

Crooks is well known for his utterly bizarre takes on the game.

And he didn’t disappoint when discussing Moyes’s impending Hammers exit.

Crooks told BBC Sport his theory as to why the Scot is leaving:

“As for Moyes, well, he has departed on good terms and left the club in a far better state than when he arrived. The West Ham fans have driven him out and wait to see what Julen Lopetegui can do. Be careful what you wish for.”

So Garth, the fact that he’s been moved on is nothing to do with the fact that we’ve won just four games in all competitions in 2024 no?

Nothing to do with the fact that we’ve slipped down from sixth to ninth in the Premier League table since the turn of the year. Nothing to do with the fact that we finished just six points clear of the relegation places last season?

Or who knows, and I’m aware that this is an absolutely wild take Garth, but what about if the owners were perhaps fed up with Moyes’s turgid brand of football, just like the fans were.

Yes, many of us wanted Moyes out, but for good reason. He has overseen a painful regression at the London Stadium over the past nine months.

The be careful what you wish for line is such a boring and tired cliche – one usually put forward by misguided pundits who never watch us play.

Just look at Crystal Palace. Their supporters were being told to ‘be careful what you wish for’ by fans of other clubs, the media and pundits alike.

And look at them now!

This idea that we have to be careful what we wish for is utter nonsense. There’s no reason to believe that we are not on the cusp of a really exciting new era of success.

Moyes leaving West Ham needed to happen this summer. It’s just so frustrating that these patronising pundits keep labelling us as spoilt brats for having that opinion.
