Report: What Chelsea's stance on Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart is ahead of end-of-season review

Chelsea were taken over by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital in 2022.

Under Todd Boehly and Clearlake, Chelsea have made plenty of signings.

Co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart have overseen a lot of that business.

Several signings have not really worked out so far, including Mykhailo Mudryk. The winger, who is one of the club’s most expensive ever arrivals, managed to score over the weekend, but he has underwhelmed overall. That strike against Nottingham Forest was just his seventh in 57 appearances.

Some will now feel that Winstanley and Stewart should be under scrutiny and not just Mauricio Pochettino.

Are Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart’s jobs at Chelsea safe?

According to The Telegraph, Chelsea have an end-of-season review coming up, where Pochettino’s future will be decided.

However, it does not look like that review is going to have any impact on Winstanley and Stewart.

Going into it, the same outlet claims that the two sporting directors are safe.

It means that they will be expected to spearhead Chelsea’s recruitment once again in the next transfer window.

What positions could Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart look at in the summer?

Seventh in the Premier League table and missing out on Champions League football, Chelsea will want to strengthen their squad in the next transfer window.

It could see Winstanley and Stewart approve moves for a centre-forward, left-back, central defender and goalkeeper, with The Telegraph’s report claiming that all four of those positions are currently being looked at.

Striker probably needs to be the club’s priority. While they can be satisfied with the impact Nicolas Jackson has been able to make — he has scored 17 goals in a blue shirt this season — the Senegal international is the only natural No.9 in Pochettino’s squad right now.

With Thiago Silva leaving Stamford Bridge, a central defender could be the next thing on the list. It could be another big transfer window for Winstanley and Stewart, then.
