Liverpool were so close yet so far from winning the Premier League this season.
A month or two ago, the Reds were in the driving seat in the title race, but, unfortunately, over the past few weeks, the Merseyside club have fallen away.
Speaking on his podcast, Eamon Dunphy has been discussing the Reds’ title push, and he’s noted that he believes Liverpool would’ve won the league this season if they signed Declan Rice ahead of Arsenal in the summer.

Dunphy spoke about Rice and the impact he would’ve had at Anfield.
“I think if Liverpool had bought him he would’ve been huge for them this year,” Dunphy said.
“I would say John, that, if Liverpool, who are my team, if they paid £100m for Rice last summer, as Arsenal did, I think they would’ve won the league this year, it’s only Mac Allister who has worked, the rest of them aren’t much good.”

Hindsight is 20/20, but it’s now so obvious that Liverpool should’ve signed Declan Rice.
Unfortunately, timings just didn’t work in Liverpool’s favour on this occasion.
Fabinho was still a Liverpool player when Rice signed for Arsenal, and Jurgen Klopp’s side probably weren’t thinking of signing a marquee holding midfielder.
Of course, that all changed later in the window when a huge bid for Moises Caicedo went in and Wataru Endo was signed, but perhaps if the Reds had all of their ducks in a row earlier in the window, Rice could’ve been a target.
Whether or not Rice would’ve helped Liverpool to a league title is up for debate, but it’s hard to argue that he would’ve have at least had a positive influence on this squad and taken them that much closer.
