'Unbelievable': Gary Neville says Martin Odegaard would be even better if he played with striker Man City had

Gary Neville has claimed that Martin Odegaard would become an even better player if Arsenal had a striker Manchester City once had.

Neville named the Arsenal skipper as the best player in the Premier League this season on Sky Sports.

Odegaard has registered eight goals and eight assists in the league this campaign.

Neville says Odegaard would thrive if he played with ex-City striker

Former Bayern Munich technical director Michael Reschke revealed that Pep Guardiola was impressed by the Norwegian in training when he went on trial to the German giants in 2014.

Additionally, both Guardiola and Reschke were keen on signing Odegaard before he eventually decided to join Real Madrid.

Unlike in the national team, Martin Odegaard does not have the chance to play with a goalscoring machine like Erling Haaland at club level.

The midfield maestro holds Haaland in high esteem, naming him in his all-time dream five-a-side team.

Gary Neville feels Martin Odegaard would elevate as a player if he had a chance to play with a striker like Sergio Aguero.

“That is an absolutely unbelievable football player and I think the best player in the league that I’ve seen this season on a regular basis.”

Neville added: “The person that takes the ball on the half-turn, tries to play the ball through, the right type of passes. If he had, for instance, you talk about [Kevin] De Bruyne, but if he had a sort of a striker that made those darting runs, like an [Sergio] Aguero or that type, I mean, honestly, the amount of chances he creates is unbelievable.”

Aguero would have taken the Arsenal midfielder to another level

As Gary Neville stated, Sergio Aguero was an expert mover, a trait that a creative midfielder like Martin Odegaard would have loved.

Whether it be running in behind defences, making runs to the near post or ghosting in between the lines, Aguero would have made life easier for Odegaard.

The 25-year-old would not have to provide a world-class final ball to assist a striker like the Manchester City legend.

The in-form creator would also improve as a player if he played alongside the Argentine after understanding the variety of runs he makes in a game.

In the summer, it would not be a surprise if Arsenal listened to Gary Neville and signed an astute marksman like Sergio Aguero to help further elevate Martin Odegaard as a creative force.
