'Absurd': Ederson says news about his £220k-a-week Man City teammate is just completely 'unacceptable'

Ederson believes that one of his Manchester City teammates has been unfairly snubbed recently, branding it ‘unacceptable’.

The season is about to end, and Pep Guardiola is hoping to finish with two more trophies – the Premier League and the FA Cup.

Recently, the shortlists of the Premier League Player and Young Player of the Season awards were released.

For the main award, Phil Foden and Erling Haaland were both included on the shortlist, with Foden perhaps the favourite to win given his outstanding campaign.

But there was shockingly no room for Rodri on the list of nominees, and Ederson has not held back with his opinion on the situation…

Ederson has been speaking to ESPN Brasil, and gave his take on Rodri not being on the shortlist for Player of the Season.

He said: “There are good players, but I see Rodri as a great candidate who isn’t on the list.

“I don’t understand why he’s not on the list either. Honestly, that’s unacceptable.

“If you look at his year, his campaign, the last few seasons he’s been playing and see that he’s not on the list, it’s absurd.

“I don’t know what criteria they use to nominate players, but there are also great players competing.

“But I see Rodri as a great candidate to win and unfortunately he’s not on the list.”

Despite his status as one of, if not City’s most important player, there is still a general feeling that Rodri is quite as appreciated as he should be.

He only came fifth in the Ballon d’Or rankings, which felt too low considering how many top performances in big games he had last season.

An absolute joke

Many City fans are going to agree with Ederson’s remarks here. He is absolutely spot on.

Rodri has just enjoyed the best season of his career, having made 47 appearances across all competitions. Not only does he dominate practically every game he plays from the base of midfield, he has also demonstrated a big attacking threat this season.

He has scored eight goals and made 14 assists, which are just ridiculous numbers for a holding midfielder.

It is an outrage he is not on the list, and actually somewhat disrespectful.

He couldn’t have done any more to deserve an inclusion, and yet he hasn’t made the list. It’s just as Pep said earlier this season – top holding midfielders do not get the credit they truly deserve.
