Donald Trump 'wouldn't be on the market long' if Melania left him, witness says

A prosecution witness in the Donald Trump trial, Michael Cohen, has revealed what Trump allegedly said when asked what would happen if wife Melania left him.

Former president Donald Trump‘s criminal hush-money trial continued on Monday, May 13th 2024, with his former fixer Michael Cohen taking the stand to testify as a prosecution witness. Offered a problem-solving role by the powerful businessman in the early 2000s, he was “honored” to come aboard and told jurors in court this week he “would only answer to him”. During the trial, he opened up about his time working for Trump, claiming he was tasked with sculpting media narratives about the figure. Donald Trump allegedly said he wouldn’t be on the market ‘long’ if Melania left him

Shortly before Trump was elected president in 2017, adult film star Stormy Daniels alleged they had shared a sexual encounter in 2006, the year after he had married Melania Trump.

Speaking to the court this week, Cohen explained that he worked to remove her story from a gossip site in 2011 but that it would ultimately resurface, The Guardian reports. “He was really angry with me,” Cohen said, remembering his boss told him: “I thought you had this under control. I thought you took care of this.”

Cohen said that had been the case in 2011, not in the present.

When Cohen asked him how things were going with Melania, Cohen recalled: “Don’t worry, he goes. He goes: how long do you think I’ll be on the market for? Not long… .”

He expressed the belief that instead of Trump fearing it would affect his marriage, “This was all about the campaign.”

Donald Trump said men would ‘think it’s cool’

On the subject of Daniels sharing her story during the race for presidency, Cohen claims Trump told him “Just take care of it, there’s a lot going on… This was a disaster, a f***ing disaster.”

On how the public would perceive him in the wake of the bombshell, this is what Trump had to say, according to Cohen’s testimony (via the Telegraph): “Women will hate me. Guys – they’ll think it’s cool.”

Cohen said his boss wanted him to “push it out as long as you can, past the election, because if I win, I’ll be president, and if I lose, I won’t really care.”

Trump has pleaded not guilty to all charges and has denied having an affair with Daniels. The trial remains ongoing.
