Liverpool told they will need to spend £60m to sign midfielder Arne Slot loves

There’s a midfielder on Liverpool’s radar at the moment and Liverpool may need to spend up to £60m to sign him.

Despite a few links to Arne Slot’s current players at Feyenoord, it’s unlikely that Liverpool will be signing anyone from the Dutch club.

Firstly, it’s important to understand that Slot is expected to be Liverpool’s head-coach, rather than manager. That means he will have less to say when it comes to recruitment.

Instead, Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes will take a front seat when it comes to bringing in new players to the club.

But interestingly, there is one former player who played under Slot who has been on Liverpool’s radar for some time, and who could be reunited with the club’s likely new head-coach this summer.

Teun Koopmeiners to Liverpool transfer latest

Teun Koopmeiners has been on Liverpool’s radar for some time. The club’s scouts have tracked him since his AZ Alkmaar days while he was playing under Arne Slot.

He’s also caught the eye against the Reds for Atalanta in the Europa League recently, and has had a great season in the Serie A.

Koopmeiners is still attracting interest from Liverpool at the moment. Although it will not be cheap to bring him to Anfield this summer.

According to TuttoSport, Atalanta want between 60-70 million Euros (which is £51-£60m) for his services. That would be a significant sum of money for Liverpool to play but it might be worth it considering how well Koopmeiners did under Slot.

What was Koopmeiners like under Arne Slot?

In Slot’s system at AZ Alkmaar, Koopmeiners often played as the deep-lying midfielder in a double pivot.

He was the player who dictated the matches and controlled AZ’s rhythm of play. Everything flowed through him.

Under Slot, Koopmeiners scored 21 goals and registered seven assists in 58 matches. He was also Slot’s captain for AZ. It’s evident he was a player Slot really enjoyed working with, and perhaps they could be reunited at Anfield.
