'I think': Mark Guidi believes he knows what Brendan Rodgers has had to slowly do behind the scenes at Celtic

Brendan Rodgers has had a lot to deal with in the first season of his second tenure at Celtic Park.

The Hoops boss has had horrendous luck with injuries to his top players. He has also had to deal with transfer speculation surrounding the likes of Matt O’Riley and Reo Hatate.

And let’s not forget Celtic’s summer transfer business. Although the manager admits he signed off on the deals that were already in motion, it seems that the players identified are just not of the required standard to play in his Celtic team.

So you could say that Rodgers has had to juggle many different balls to get Celtic within a hair’s breadth of this title.

But that’s not all he’s had to deal with.

Rodgers ‘weeds out’ internal Celtic fighters

Mark Guidi has shared what he’s heard the Celtic manager has had to deal with during his first season back at Parkhead.

The journalist has claimed that there were people inside Celtic who were ‘against’ Rodgers that the Irishman is now in the process of weeding out.

Guidi said [The Go Radio Football Show], “He’s had to win back a real core of his own support. I think he’s had a lot of internal fights.

“A lot of people internally against him that he’s had to slowly weed out.

“And that’s still a work in progress. But he’s had to do that as well. He’s come up against transfer stuff that’s not been to his liking.

“So he’s in the middle of sorting that out too.”

Just who these people are, many Celtic fans could take a guess on. And if what Guidi claims is correct, let’s hope that Rodgers is closer to getting those people out of the club sooner rather than later.

Because next season is going to be huge for Celtic. Champions League group-stage football awaits and that will require the full attention of Rodgers.

As will the defence of the title when Celtic get it over the line this week.

This season has shown that Rodgers has had enough unavoidable distractions to deal with. The Celtic boss cannot afford to have any of Celtic’s own making distracting him from what could be another big season for the Irishman.
