MSNBC host aghast to hear testimony that ex-attorney general was 'in cahoots' for Trump

MSNBC host Jose Diaz-Balart had a moment of disbelief about some of the statements from Michael Cohen while he was under oath in the hush money trial.

Trump is facing 34 felony counts in Manhattan for falsifying business records to cover up an alleged affair.

Among the things Cohen claimed under oath was that the then-president back in 2019 coordinated with then-Attorney General Bill Barr to grant immunity to longtime Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg to testify in Cohen's case.

"This is such an unusual case in every way," said Diaz-Balart. "But then to be bombarded with all of this information. I mean, this is such a public world! And thinking about the fact that this witness is saying that the attorney general of the United States of America was in cahoots with the president of the United States of America with this attorney. It's so — how do people process this?"

Professor Maya Wiley explained that this is the first criminal trial of Trump's and it's the first time that the country has ever seen a former president be on trial.

"And it is relating to whether or not there was an effort to conceal an agreement to have an impact — to interfere with the very election this former president ran, means everybody is kind of processing this. It's — what does this really mean?" Wiley said as Diaz-Balart agreed.

She said that Trump's lawyer, Todd Blanche, must be sitting in court, well aware that "he is carrying the weight of history on his shoulders."

Legal analyst Allison Gill pointed to a 2018 report from the New York Times in which it was revealed that then-Attorney General Bill Barr gave Trump's CFO Allen Weisselberg immunity so he could testify against Michael Cohen.

"Pretty neat trick to shut him up in this case," said Gill.
