Report: The amount of money Chelsea could actually end up spending on Estevao Willian

Chelsea signing Palmeiras winger Estevao Willian always looked like it was going to be an expensive deal.

Estevao Willian is said to have a €60m (£51.6m) release clause in his contract.

However, reports suggest it could take more than that fee for Chelsea to sign the young Brazilian this summer.

Even if the Blues do go on to land Estevao in the upcoming transfer window, he will not be able to join the club until next year when he turns 18.

Estevao recently responded to the speculation linking him with a move to Chelsea.

The total package to sign Estevao Willian

Once taxes are included, that £51.6m fee will increase.

According to Goal, those taxes have to be paid and once added, it will take the total package to sign Estevao to €75m (£64.5m).

That would make Estevao one of the most expensive signings in Chelsea’s history.

That is a lot of pressure and a lot of money for a player who is not even 18 yet.

Since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital have taken over Chelsea, though, the club have had no problems with spending big and on young talent.

Should Chelsea still look to conclude a deal for Estevao Willian?

If you are a club like Chelsea, a £12.9m increase is probably not that much.

If the Blues were willing to spend around £50m on Estevao, then they may as well pay another £13m if that is what is needed to acquire a player who they desperately want.

According to Fabrizio Romano, people currently working on the deal believe he could be another Vinicius Jr.

With that kind of potential, perhaps Chelsea should go all out for him. At the same time, though, having missed out on Champions League football for a second season running, the club’s priority should be improving the first team, something that Estevao cannot do as a 17-year-old.
