'In the next days': Romano drops update on reported Spurs target who's 'one of the most talented players of his generation'

Tottenham Hotspur are likely to be busy in the summer transfer window as Ange Postecoglou looks to build on the solid work he has done so far.

Spurs have improved from last season and are now likely to play in Europe next season. Indeed, there’s still a chance they could make the Champions League.

The foundations are certainly there at Tottenham, and this summer should see Spurs add more quality to their ranks.

Over the past few months, Tottenham have been linked with a player who has been deemed “one of the most talented players of his generation”.

The player in question is Barcelona’s Vitor Roque, and Fabrizio Romano has now provided an update on the state of play involving the 19-year-old.

What has Fabrizio Romano said about Vitor Roque amid Tottenham links?

Romano, writing on CaughtOffside, has claimed that Barca and Roque’s camp are set for talks over his future in the coming days.

He played down any notion of Roque’s future having already been decided, but he did note how Barca are in need of selling players to balance their books this summer.

“Deco has not decided anything on the future of Vitor Roque yet.

“There will be a meeting between all parties in the next days, discussions will follow with all parties involved to decide on the player’s future. Some patience is needed on this case among many, many rumours.

“Still, with Financial Fair Play concerns, Barcelona will have to sell some players this summer of course.

“However, for now I can guarantee they have not decided anything yet, every day on media it looks like one player is leaving but the reality is that at the moment it’s still quiet.

“For example, Ansu Fati remains one of the players expected to leave and let’s see what kind of proposals they will receive for Raphinha.”

Who is Tottenham Hotspur target Vitor Roque?

Roque, who was born in Timoteo, Minas Gerais, began his football journey at America Mineiro in 2015, before linking up with Cruzeiro’s academy in 2019.

He broke into the first team two years later and then joined Athletico Paranaense in 2022, where he made a name for himself as one of Brazil’s top talents.

Roque’s 28 goals and 11 assists from 81 competitive outings earned him a move to Barca at the end of last year, with a contract running until 2031.

However, the ‘extraordinary‘ talent has been struggling for game time, which has led to reports linking him with a move away from Catalonia.

In 2022, Football Talent Scout‘s Jacek Kulig described Roque as “one of the most talented players of his generation, not only in Brazil but also South America”.

Kulig also compared the reported Tottenham target to Brazil legend Ronaldo and gave him a 10/10 rating for potential.
