'I'll be rooting': Ederson says he's hoping £225k-a-week Man City star wins the PL Player of the Season award

Ederson Moraes has revealed that he is hoping for one of his Manchester City teammates to win the Premier League Player of the Season award.

Several Manchester City players have won the award before.

Last season, Erling Haaland deservedly lifted the award alongside the PFA Players’ Player of the Season accolade as well.

Ederson is “rooting” for one Man City player to win individual award

In the campaign before that, Kevin De Bruyne won the award.

De Bruyne also won the award in 2020 while Ruben Dias was the recipient of the prestigious accolade in 2021.

Vincent Kompany was the first City player to be handed the award in 2012.

The Brazilian goalkeeper expressed that it was “unacceptable” that Rodri was not even nominated.

As a result, Ederson is hoping Phil Foden picks up the Premier League Player of the Season award for having a cracking campaign.

Speaking to ESPN Brasil, Ederson said: “So, I think I’ll be rooting for Phil [Foden] to win because Phil is also having a great season, he’s helped us a lot. This season he’s scored more goals, provided more assists, been more consistent and more important to the team too.”

The £225,000-a-week man has had a season to remember so far, as he has been far from a player who has blended into the background at the Etihad Stadium.

Nine Fulham players also claimed Foden has been the division’s standout performer.

Hard to see Phil Foden not winning it up until now

Jamie Carragher described the 23-year-old’s campaign as somewhat of a “breakout season” as he has become one of City’s main men.

With Manchester City looking like favourites to win the title, Ederson could end up being a happy man as Phil Foden looks set to be awarded the individual honour up until now.

The Englishman has 17 goals and eight assists in the league while his displays have been wondrous to witness, as both statistically and on the eye, he has seemingly wowed fans, pundits and fellow players.

For Ederson to see his wish granted, he and his teammates will have to be at their best against Tottenham and West Ham to help Foden become the fifth City player to win the award.
