‘That’s gone well’: Lando Norris jokes about what Travis Kelce has done ‘wrong’ in F1 after Miami GP encounter

McLaren driver Lando Norris has been the centre of attention in the world of Formula 1 ever since his maiden victory at the Miami Grand Prix.

The 24-year-old fantastically guided his McLaren home, opening up a seven-second gap over Max Verstappen.

Unsurprisingly, Lando Norris has received a lot of plaudits since his greatest achievement in F1.

Verstappen was quick to praise him after the race and Lewis Hamilton had a message for Norris in his post-race interview.

Norris even admitted that he received a message from his hero on Instagram in the aftermath of the Grand Prix.

However, speaking on BBC Radio 1, Norris admitted that he had a brief interaction with Super Bowl winner Travis Kelce in Miami.

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end has a business interest in Formula 1, however, Norris has now said that the 34-year-old has invested in the wrong team.

Interest in Formula 1 over the past few years in the United States has skyrocketed.

The feeling among American fans was at an all-time low after the 2005 Grand Prix in Indianapolis when only six cars started the race.

It’s taken nearly 20 years, but now the feeling towards the sport is more positive than ever, with an American team on the grid and three races on the calendar.

Miami, Austin and Las Vegas have become some of the biggest events on the grid and attract huge numbers of celebrities.

Travis Kelce was in attendance in Miami and watched Norris’s crowning achievement on Sunday.

However, the British driver has admitted that Kelce might have invested in the wrong team if he wanted to enjoy Formula 1.

Asked who the maddest person he heard from was after his race win, Norris said: “I mean there were a fair few.”

Greg James replied: “I was actually getting at this guy, Travis Kelce!”

James then asked if Kelce was a big Formula 1 fan after he attended the race in Miami and Norris commented: “I mean he was.

“He’s invested in the wrong team, first of all.”

James: “He’s an Alpine guy?”

Norris: “Yeah, that’s gone well! Each to their own. A lot of people know about Travis now, especially after the Super Bowl and everything.

“But I met him, I was out at dinner, I had to get some food in me after the race and he was there.

“One of my friends introduced me to him and he was an awesome guy, he was a legend, he was very sweet and we exchanged numbers and hopefully I can get to a game one day. Or a Taylor Swift concert!”

Alpine starting to turn a corner after a tough start to the 2024 F1 season

Travis Kelce might have seen Norris win his first race in Miami, but he also witnessed Alpine score their first point of the season.

Esteban Ocon had a great battle with Fernando Alonso and while the two-time world champion came out on top, the Frenchman still finished tenth to help Alpine get off the mark.

It means they now have a one-point lead over Williams and Sauber, but they’ll be aiming to finish above Haas and RB by the end of the season.

Travis Kelce isn’t the only high-profile sports star to be part of Alpine’s investor group.

He’s joined by fellow NFL star Patrick Mahomes, boxer Anthony Joshua and golfer Rory McIlroy.

Alongside his investment in Wrexham, Ryan Reynolds has also backed Alpine, while Zinedine Zidane is one of the team’s ambassadors.

Alpine may have an A-list group of celebrities following the team, but as Norris alludes to, the team need to give them something to cheer about soon.
