Report: Sergio Ramos now in advanced talks to join rival MLS team after links to Inter Miami

Sergio Ramos is reportedly in advanced talks to join a rival MLS team despite recent transfer links to Inter Miami.

The 38-year-old defender is due to leave Sevilla at the end of this season, with a move to MLS emerging as the most likely destination for Ramos in what might be the final transfer of the Spanish legend’s career.

And Inter Miami have been at the forefront of these rumors surrounding Ramos, with the defender’s agent reportedly flying to the US over Easter to discuss a potential transfer with MLS teams for this summer.

However, Inter Miami could now be about to lose the race to sign Ramos.

San Diego FC advancing in pursuit to sign Inter Miami-linked Ramos

According to the Athletic, MLS expansion side San Diego FC are currently in advanced talks to sign Ramos as one of their first Designated Players, with the California franchise set to take to the field next season.

As per the report, Ramos has offers from around the globe for his services this summer, yet it now appears that San Diego are leading the charge to sign the legendary Spanish defender in the coming weeks.

Indeed, for Inter Miami, missing out on Ramos would be viewed by many as quite a blow given how the center-back was strongly linked with a move to the Florida franchise.

However, with San Diego ready to make Ramos a Designated Players, Inter Miami will be unable to match the wages their new MLS rivals are willing to make for the 38-year-old this summer.

Inter Miami should star looking elsewhere for a new defensive signing

Ramos would have been an ideal fit for Inter Miami given his superstar status and previous work alongside Lionel Messi at PSG.

Yet with news now breaking that San Diego are putting in the work to sign Ramos, it would be a smart idea if Inter Miami began looking elsewhere for a new defensive signing this summer.

Whilst Ramos might be off the table, there are still a number of players Inter Miami could target in the coming weeks, and the Herons now have the pull to bring in an equally bigger name than the Spaniard.
