'Something there': Gary Neville says Man Utd player 'needs' a second season, expects improvement

This season, few Manchester United players can hold their heads high and now Gary Neville has reviewed one player’s season.

It’s been an awful season at Old Trafford which has seen few players leave with their stocks intact.

Erik ten Hag will be lucky to survive in his job after such a sustained period of terrible football and results.

But there have been a few names who’ve been impressive and some who have shown signs that they could do better if surrounded by a better structure at Manchester United.

Now, Gary Neville has reviewed one player’s season and admitted he thinks next season will see improvements for this star.

Gary Neville reviews Andre Onana’s first season at Manchester United

After the Premier League game on Monday Night Football for Sky Sports, Neville was discussing United and ended up talking about Onana.

“I would say probably in some ways, I would say par. He started off really struggled, Champions League he really struggled obviously, but he has had a decent sort of second half of the season.

“Made the odd mistake, but showed personality and character. I think he needs that second season inside him to really sort of come to terms with it. I think there’s something there.”

Onana cannot be judged for this season considering how awful the team in front of him has been and the sheer amount of shots he’s faced this campaign.

Andre Onana will get a second season to prove himself

After joining last summer, Onana hasn’t had the transformational effect that many thought he could.

That being said, it’s hard to point a finger at him considering he’s had to face more shots than he would’ve ever expected to even in his worst nightmares.

So this summer, it could be assumed the big problems at United right now will be addressed which should allow Onana to actually shine.

We expect new defenders and a new number six to arrive as well, which should benefit Onana in his ball playing and in turn, evolve United into a proper footballing side.
