Kentucky has picked up a specialist out of the NCAA transfer portal, landing a commitment from UT-Martin kicker Aidan Laros on Tuesday afternoon.

Laros announced his commitment on Twitter.

The addition is a significant one for Kentucky, as Laros is a fairly accomplished kicker. He was an Associated Press first-team FCS All-American in 2023.

He previously played for the Charlotte 49ers, under head coach Will Healy. In 2022, he handled kickoff duties for the 49ers, averaging 60.6 yards per kickoff attempt over the course of 51 kickoffs for that season. He had 28 touchbacks and opponents only returned the ball 13 times.

Laros entered the Transfer Portal following the 2023 and landed at UT Martin. There, he had a phenomenal season for the Skyhawks. He earned Associated Press FCS All-American first team and Phil Steele FCS All-American first team honors. Laros was also a semifinalist to be the FCS Punter of the Year and he was the Big South-OVC Football Association Special Teams Player of the Year.

Aidan Laros acted both as UT-Martin’s kicker and as the team’s punter. As a punter, he punted 52 times for an average of 47.5 yards per punt. That included a long of 71. Meanwhile, as the team’s kicker, he made 43 of 45 extra points and made 10 out of 16 field goal attempts.

A native of Cape Town, South Africa, he and his family grew up playing rugby. He moved to the United States ahead of his freshman season of high school, which he attended at Northwood High School. He was an unranked recruit coming out of high school.

Aidan Laros redshirted in 2021, giving him another two seasons of eligibility.

In 2023, UT Martin went 8-3 and was the Big South-OVC co-champion. That was the 18th season the Skyhawks were coached by Jason Simpson.
