A round-up of the latest Liverpool news as Real Madrid believe a key Reds player may leave the club and an Anfield star now reminds Jamie Carragher of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Jurgen Klopp names Jarell Quansah among Liverpool’s six most promising youngsters

Jurgen Klopp has named Jarell Quansah among the six most promising young prospects at Liverpool right now. The departing Reds manager was full of praise for the defender after his goal at Aston Villa this Monday night. Now, Klopp expects Quansah to kick on under his heir.

Liverpool will move on from Klopp at the end of the season after the German elected to step down in January. But the tactician believes the Merseyside outfit have the right foundations for his successor to thrive, with Quansah among the leading lights from Liverpool’s academy.

Klopp also backs Conor Bradley to kick on after his breakthrough this season, whilst offering James McConnell, Bobby Clark, Kaide Gordon and Stefan Bajcetic his faith. Bradley broke through at Anfield this term having made 22 of his 27 senior appearances for the club so far.

“Jarell, yes, Conor, yes, James McConnell, Bobby Clark, Kaide Gordon – [he was] long, long injured [but is] back now, really good – Stefan Bajcetic,” Klopp said in his post-match press conference at Aston Villa on Monday.

“So, the basis is there and all the other big guns really; the basis is there. New influences always help, that’s how it is. We did what we could and if we could have done better, we probably would have, let me say it like that. Now, we are where we are and that’s it.”

Jarell Quansah’s goal vs Aston Villa reminds Jamie Carragher of Cristiano Ronaldo

Reds legend Jamie Carragher has praised Liverpool centre-half Jarell Quansah after scoring a goal reminiscent of Cristiano Ronaldo at Aston Villa. The 21-year-old left Carragher in awe at Villa Park after handing the Anfield natives a 3-1 lead, before the Villans saved a 3-3 draw.

Quansah rose high to meet Harvey Elliott’s cross with an inch-perfect header into the far top corner of Emiliano Martinez’s net. It was just the second goal that Quansah has scored in his first-team career for Liverpool over 32 appearances, and his first in a Premier League fixture.

Carragher even believes Quansah’s goal was akin to the trademark manner Ronaldo hangs in the air waiting for the ball. The Warrington native caught Lucas Digne napping to get behind Aston Villa’s left-back, before leaping early for Elliott’s delivery to leave Martinez motionless.

“This header is absolutely out of this world,” Carragher declared during Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football broadcast. “He is trying to hold his run because of the offside trap but he gets up so high and he’s actually ahead of the ball.

“His body position when the ball is in the air, it reminds me a little bit, I’ve seen Ronaldo score these types of headers where he gets up so early and he’s almost in the air waiting for the ball and as it comes across, I mean look how high his knees are off the ground.”

Real Madrid believe Trent Alexander-Arnold could leave Liverpool

Real Madrid are continuing to monitor Trent Alexander-Arnold in view of chasing his transfer from Liverpool this summer. That is according to Matteo Moretto, who says that Los Blancos believe there will be an opportunity to sign the right-back if he does not pen a new contract.

Alexander-Arnold will enter the final year of his current terms at Anfield in July. So, Santiago Bernabeu chiefs are set to wait until the window opens to make a move, knowing Liverpool will be in a weaker stance to negotiate the sale of their vice-captain without a new contract.

Liverpool have not extended their academy graduates’ terms since he penned a new deal in July 2021. The 25-year-old has since reached 309 senior appearances for the Reds across all competitions. Alexander-Arnold has featured in 36 of their 57 matches so far this season.
